Artist Statement
In all my paintings, I work toward conveying emotions or ideas rather than reality. There is always an inner dialogue in each of my artworks, reflecting human’s constant desire for evolution and prosperity.
I can relate myself to expressionism and figurative art style! Most of my artwork depict human figures, it is dream figures reflecting real emotions.
Each series of paintings mirrors a different state of mind, a spiritual moment, a doubtful moment, or an echo from the past. My work reveals many levels of emotion.
I paint primarily in acrylic combined with a variety of media, including fabric, Japanese paper, clay, sand, and photo transfers.
Artist Biography
Canadian artist Lina Faroussi was born and raised in Syria; she grew up surrounded by political turmoil and has deeply felt the impact of watching her homeland torn apart by the recent war.
Faroussi moved to Egypt with her family in her teens. Art was not a conventional career path and she was persuaded to finish her bachelor’s degree in commerce. During the many years to follow in Egypt, then Dubai, before she finally settled in Toronto in 2008, Lina’s unwavering passion for art led her to study visual art. She attended different art schools and institutions, alongside working on her business career in marketing and event management.
Eventually, she decided to focus solely on her art. She continued her study in visual arts and exhibited in numerous group and solo shows throughout the Middle East, Europe, Canada, and the USA, including Art Tour International & Art Expo New York, Art Fair London, UK, and Art Expo, Milano, Italy.
Faroussi’s artworks have been published in international art books and magazines, including Art Tour International Magazine, Polychromia International Art, and International Contemporary Artists book. She has received multiple art awards and certifications, such as the Masters' Award (Top 60 Masters) by Art Tour International Magazine and Certificate of Excellence by the Circle Foundation for Art.
In 2018, Lina started a small business and created her own brand, “Lina’s”, digitally printing some of her original paintings onto different fabrics as wearable art and interior design items.
Agora Gallery, NYC, said of Lina’s style: “A spiritual vitality emerges within Faroussi’s art creating universal connections that span cultural divides as she discovers a passionate journey of the soul in the soft immediacy of her mark”.
